Home again, home again, jiggity-jig.

WC61 was moved form the park land airport this morning and was relocated on the 4.1 pad along side its old profiling buddy the radiometer.

WC68 was co-located again with WC49 on the 4.0 pad.

All of the windcube stands, storage boxes, extension cords, and blue bin of goodies are in teh 3.1 data shed for storage.  The GPS and multi-meter are on campus with Mike.

WC61 Peltier/Temperature Control Swap

Last week I swapped out the Peltier and temperature control units for WC61.  There wasn't anything complicated about the process, but the forearms got a good work out with all of the screwdriver turning.

I also checked on WC68 to reboot it after a shutdown.  I contacted NRG about double checking the temperature settings for WC68 and am waiting on word back about that.

Pictures from the Peltier swap are in the CUwindcube google account.

7/18 and 7/21 maintenance

7/18

WC 61 Verizon connection was reset because of a Verizon update. Modem was moved to the top of the WC (under the cover) to improve service. TeamViewer was also having some problems activating on the on-board computer. We opened Task Manager and looked at the 'Processes' tab and saw that there were several TeamViewer executable? (.exe) processes running, so we 'killed' them all and restarted TeamViewer. This seemed to do the trick. Overall, maintenance took place from around 12:45pm to around 2:10pm.

7/21

WC 61 was not scanning (probably because the internal temperature was around 124 degs) and the internet connection wasn't working for some reason. We shut it down and restarted a few minutes later and it seems to be working now. Maintenance took place around 12:15pm to around 12:45pm and again around 2pm for a few minutes.

WC 68 wasn't scanning and we weren't able to use the remote desktop connection, so we did a hard shut down and it started working upon restarting. We are not sure what the problem was as we couldn't get into the WC on-board computer before the hard shut down, but we assume it had something to do with the high temperatures. Maintenance took place around 1:20pm to around 1:40pm.

Quick notes about needed maintenance

We replaced wiper motors for both 68 and 61 in preparation for CWEX-13. Mike contacted Welly about 61 pump not working at same time. 3-pin pump trigger not behaving.

61: Wiper works, Pump hasn't worked since CWEX-13; problem is in internal box. Neither internal nor external pumps work. Could trigger the pump and observe electronics via multimeter (may need oscilloscope).

68: Wiper works but is finicky. Rubber is stiff, gets caught on glass lip. Gears slip on the mechanism.

49: Similar to 68. Needs new wiper blade.

Locations of the WC-V1s at the BAO

Here are the GPS coordinates for the Windcube V1s at the BAO site. They were installed on 1 July, 2014.

Windcube 61: 40.05118°N, 105.00544°W
Windcube 68: 40.04698°N, 105.00315°W

LUMEX status and current IP addresses

LUMEX Notes and Issues:

- WC49 is still deployed at the NWTC, near the M5 met tower, for intercomparisons with UAV flights
- WC68 is currently deployed SE of the BAO tower to provide a virtual tower for comparison to the Dual-Doppler measurements from NOAA's HRDL and UMBC's 200S
- WC61 (NCAR) is currently deployed at the NW guywire of the BAO to quantify heterogeneity across the BAO site (provide error bars for the Dual-Doppler work)

Issues:
- WC68's wiper motor is not working
- WC61's fan is not working (due to a short-circuit) although the temperature measurements is still working and can cut power in case of overheating
- WC61's pump seems not to be working

Useful information:
WC49: 129.175.131.3:1266
WC61: 129.175.131.7:1266
WC68: 129.175.131.8

WC68 lives again

After swapping out the stage motor on WC68 it is now operating normally.  For now it is co-located with WC49 on the 4.0 pad at the NWTC.

WC49 transformer failure

While checking on our instruments today (2014/5/21) I noticed the power transformer on WC49 was not providing power to the LIDAR.  For further diagnosis I swapped the WC68 (not operational) transformer to feed into the WC49 port and then removed the WC49 transformer.  Everything started up as expected with the swap.

The internal WC49 transformer fan was running while it was plugged in but insufficient power was getting to the LIDAR.  I will post an update when I know further information.

Update:  The transformer seemed to be operating normally when tested in Boulder.  It has been providing power to WC49 for a couple weeks now without any issues.
